5 Tips for Keeping Your Children Healthy in the Age of COVID-19

5 Tips for Keeping Your Children Healthy in the Age of COVID-19

As a parent, the age of COVID-19 has most likely put you on high alert as far as your children’s health goes. This means that there are a number of areas in which you can try to improve upon in order to get the best for your children. The following are five tips that should help you with this, making it easier for you to keep your children in the best health at this time.

1. Feed Them a Healthy Diet

The foundation of good health is a properly balanced nutritious diet. Take the time to make healthy meal plans for your entire family. Whenever you can, prepare and cook these meals yourself. This way, you can be sure of the ingredients, staying confident in the fact that you are only giving your family the very best. This will help in other areas of your children’s lives as well. For example, with 39 million children aged less than five being obese or overweight in 2020, it’s clear to see that feeding your children a healthy diet will benefit them a lot. This will be highly integral in helping your children maintain a healthy weight.

2. Remind Them to Wash Their Hands Frequently and Correctly

Germs are everywhere. As much as we may try our best to avoid them, there may always be a few that sneak past our defenses. With this in mind, it’s clearly important to remind your children about the benefits of regular handwashing. Take the time to show them how to wash their hands the right way. This should make it easier for them to stay germ-free even as they go about their daily lives. You could provide them with a handy bottle of sanitizer that easily fits in their tiny hands or little backpack. This will come in handy whenever they feel that they have been exposed to germs but can’t quite reach a handwashing station.

3. Keep Them Up to Date on Their Vaccines

Vaccines do a great job of helping boost our natural immunity and make sure that our bodies can fight disease effectively. This makes it important to have your children vaccinated and ready to face the world with better immunity. In the United States alone, there are over 6,200 hospitals in operation. This means that you are pretty much spoiled for choice when it comes to finding a place to take your children to get vaccinated. Lead by example as their parent by getting your own vaccinations, so that it feels a bit easier for them to get theirs.

4. Encourage Them to Engage in Low-Risk Sports

Staying active is important for a growing child, so make sure that you help them stay active in a safe way. This could involve advising them to play low-risk sports such as cycling, golf, and other individual sports that don’t call for crowding and close contact with other people. Other good sports are those that don’t make use of shared equipment, like cross country, sprinting, and generally most outdoor sports. If your child does want to play close contact sports, consult with the leaders of the team to learn about what safety precautions they’re taking.

5. Have Them Wear a Mask When in Shared Spaces

Finally, you should remind your children to wear their masks the right way whenever they are in a shared space. This is in line with a recommendation from the CDC, which shares that everyone who is aged over two years should wear face masks in order to lower the risk of spreading COVID-19. Make sure they have enough masks if they wear disposable ones. If your family uses reusable masks, make sure to clean and sanitize the reusable ones you get in order to keep them efficient.

Keep your children healthy with these tips. You’ll be a happy parent when they don’t come back home with symptoms of disease whenever they leave the house. Prevent the spread of COVID-19 and protect your babies and everyone else around you.
