5 Health, Fitness, and Safety Tips You Likely Aren’t Thinking About

The world is a dangerous place. It is important that you consider your health, fitness, and safety as you go through your day-to-day life. Luckily, it’s easy to incorporate good habits into your routine that will help you stay safe and healthy. Here are some health, safety, and fitness tips you’re likely not thinking about.

1. Regularly Check Your Home for Mold

Mold is a common problem that can have major consequences. We estimate that about 70% of homes have mold in them. Plus, 28% of people are genetically predisposed to health problems when they come into contact with mold. While many people only think about potential mold after there’s been a flood or leak in the house, you should always be on guard against it. Check your home regularly and make sure you clean up any small patches of mold that you find. Regular inspections will help you catch small mold problems before they become large enough to threaten your home or health.

2. Avoid Driving Beside 18-Wheelers

When you’re on the highway, you should always drive safely. This is common sense. You wear seatbelts and follow traffic laws. However, you need to be extra careful when you’re driving around 18-wheelers. An 18-wheeler can weigh up to 80,000 pounds while a standard car weighs about 4,000 pounds. A collision can easily cause injury or death to anybody involved. Since 18-wheelers have blind spots in the area beside them, never drive next to one. Instead, pass them on the left and get out of that space as soon as you can.

3. Visit Your Doctor

Even if your health is perfect, you should still see your doctors regularly. Preventative care provides you and them with an opportunity to look for problems and find solutions to them. Not only should you see your primary care physician yearly, but you should also see your dentist and eye doctor. Vision problems are one of the top ten disabilities in adults and one of the most prevalent disabilities in children. Your eye doctor can catch problems early or help you manage any conditions. It is so important that you don’t put off or cancel these appointments. Otherwise, you’ll have no way of knowing a problem exists until it is too big to resolve easily.

4. Learn to Swim

If you’ve never learned to swim, do so. Not only is swimming an excellent fitness option, it can also help you avoid drowning if you end up falling in the water. Look into lessons from professional organizations. These will help you learn the basics of swimming in a safe environment. Once you know how to swim, you’ll get a boost in confidence and have a new, fun way to improve your health.

5. Get to Know Your Area

Whether you’ve just moved in or have lived in your home for decades, take some time to get to know the surrounding area better. If you are familiar with the people and places in your neighborhood, you’ll be better prepared to deal with any kinds of emergencies that can occur. Get to know your neighbors. This can open up new social opportunities while also strengthening bonds that can keep you all safe.

Get to know the different routes and businesses as well. Not only will this help you feel more connected to your community, but it will also be useful information to have when you need to give or receive help from those around you.

There are always ways to improve your health, safety, and fitness. Consider adding some of these tips to your daily routine!
