4 Tips to Plan Your DIY Wedding

4 Tips to Plan Your DIY Wedding

Weddings take so much planning. You just want your partner to be happy on your special day. Even if you are going to the courthouse to get married, it still has to be perfect. Sometimes, you just want to skip the wedding planner and do it all yourself. However, even a DIY wedding isn’t so simple. You might need a push in the right direction for a start. Here are some tips to make that happen.

1. Communication Is Key

In order for a DIY wedding to work, you have to talk to your partner. The wedding isn’t just about you. It’s about the two of you together. Sure, you can have some of the things you like, but you have to include your partner in the planning too. The two of you can balance each other out. You might get some new ideas or need to cut some out. If you want to make changes, you have to talk to them upfront. No one wants bad surprises sprung upon them. So please sit down and talk to your partner as you plan your big day.

2. Keep Your Budget in Mind

Weddings cost money. If you aren’t careful, you could end up going over your budget. Different elements of a wedding can add up before you know it. It is best to try and get bargains on everything. ComfyLiving says there are 32,370 flower businesses in America alone. Some of those can be in your price range. Sit down and look at how much you want to spend on a DIY wedding. Make a list of everything that you want to do as well. You might have to cut back on some things to save money. It might hurt, but it’s going to be worth it for your beautiful day.

3. Don’t Make it Too Complicated

About 30% of brides plan their weddings for seven months to a year. Those women want everything. First-time planners usually don’t know where to start. They want something lavish and expensive. Sometimes, they will want to go to exclusive places that they can only dream about for weddings. Don’t go there. You will give yourself headaches when you try to go big or go home on wedding plans. If you don’t know where to start, go with something simple. Maybe go with a smaller venue. Don’t have such a huge guest list. Just focus on the core things that you want and work from there. Your wedding planning doesn’t have to be elaborate and that’s okay. All that should matter is that the two of you are happy on your big day.

4. Don’t Forget to Take a Break

Wedding planning on your own can take so much out of you. Take a break from time to time. It will be good for your and your partner’s mental health. The stress of everyday life can be taxing enough as it is. You have work, bills, health, relationships, and so many other things to look after. DIY wedding planning can take a toll if you aren’t careful. You don’t need to suffer from problems or a breakdown just days before your wedding. Take a day or two to take a break. Your partner might want to keep going but calmly tell them why you need a break from wedding planning. If they love you, they will understand. Your mental health is more important than your wedding.

A DIY wedding doesn’t have to be a nightmare. It can be just as easy as taking a breath. Sit down and take the time to talk with your partner about your plans. Look at how much is in your budget for a DIY wedding. Keep the planning as simple as possible. Take a break from wedding planning when you need to. If you use these four tips, the rest of the planning will be a breeze.
